Do You Know What Your Content Is For

Content marketing is the bread and butter of the internet marketer. Every piece of writing has to have a purpose otherwise it’s as useful as an igloo in the Sahara. For internet marketers and internet businesses, there’s one formula that’s ingrained in their minds:
ARTICLES + SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION = RANKINGS
A simple equation that, sadly, is forgotten by many. By regularly adding fresh, original content to your blog or article sites will help your search engine optimisation strategy.
Why?
Because it will generate more traffic to your sales site and therefore boost your potential market place. But simply adding content willy-nilly you could be doing more harm than good. Remember that everything you write and post reflects on you and your business therefore it is essential that your content is relevant, interesting, genuine and eye-catching
Are you adding value?
Stop and think for a moment. Is your content really adding value?
It doesn’t matter whether you write your own copy or hire in a professional copywriter, your content has to add value to the reader as well as being search engine optimised.
Yes, you’re driving traffic to your website but that’s not good enough on its own.
Think about your reader for a moment. There they are, sitting in front of their computer searching the net for information. They come across your article because you’ve optimised it for the search term they were using. As they start to read you have to ask yourself:
Are you really adding value to them through your article?
Does your article have a call to action?
Is the information it contains really relevant to the audience you’ve targeted?
Your content must offer the solutions they are looking for. If you’ve just optimised it for a phrase without considering the content, is your reader really going to get what they want from it? And if they don’t, do you really think they’ll come back again? Probably not.
If your article does answer their questions but there’s no call to action (e.g. a link to take them to your website to sign up for your newsletter) what will they do? Probably navigate away to another site and forget all about you.
What if you optimised your article for a term that has no relation to the main message within your content? Your reader is going to feel mislead and probably won’t come back to your site again.
Be a value adder
Adding fresh content that’s optimised is great. But it has to be relevant too – it must add value.
If what they find doesn’t offer them what they’re looking for, they’ll head off into the sunset because you haven’t drawn them into your site or got them interested in what you do.
