Visualization is the key to success in any area of life. Many of us visualize all day long and don’t even realize it. That’s because it’s happening below the conscious awareness. Many of us think that we don’t or can’t visualize, or make pictures in our heads, but that’s impossible. Why? Consider this:
You see somebody. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. How do you know? You get a “feeling,” or you just “know.” How does that happen? Your brain takes a quick snapshot of what you see. Then it quickly scans your memory banks to see if that snapshot “out there” matches up with anything “in there.” If it does, then you get that “feeling,” or “knowing” that you know them. This would be impossible without having the capacity to visualize pictures.
So how does this help you to create massive amounts of wealth as a writer? Thought you’d never ask. Whenever you set yourself on a task or a goal, it’s good to have a direction. Think about that soda in the fridge. You imagine how it tastes. You can feel the cold metal or glass in your hand. This gives your brain enough information to set yourself in a course of action, largely unconscious, in order to fulfill that image.
Imagine you’re about to tee off on the first tee. You could think about a cheeseburger, or you could think about hitting the perfect shot. See in your mind exactly where the ball ends up. Feel the feeling as you make the perfect swing. Just like getting up to get something out of the fridge, your programming your mind based on the outcome you want.
When you are writing, how do you do this? Visualize a bunch of words on the screen? Visualize money going into your bank account? Visualize a happy customer getting your work in their email and feeling excited? Yes! Just think of any pictures, feelings, images, anything you can think of that will only take place if you write something amazing.
One way to do this is imagine your end customer, or even their end customer. Imagine somebody reading their website, or any other place where they’ll read your stuff. Then imagine “them” asking your customer if they wrote it. Then imagine your customer telling them something like this:
“No way! I could never write like that! I’ve got this awesome writer. Her name is Jane Smith.”
Whatever images you come up with, make sure they will only come true if you write something spectacular. Why? Otherwise your subconscious will get confused. If you only imagine a fat bank account, it won’t be sure how to get there. It might make you go out and spend all your money on lotto tickets or something.
Take your time, think up a few images. Then spend as much positive emotional energy as you can muster in those images. And then sit back and wait for them to come true.
