Winter Wardrobe: How to Stay Cute… And Warm!

The long winter months are upon us, and it’s hard to stay fashionable when we’d rather just curl up in a onesie in front of the fireplace! But with the right items and a little know-how, it is possible to stay cozy and out of the cold, while still keeping up appearances of the fashionista you truly are!

Looking elegant and sophisticated is hard to achieve wearing a puffer coat and a pair of snow boots. Check out these surefire ways from Spartoo to stay stylish, without looking (or feeling) like a frozen popsicle!

Savvy Winter Fashion Finds:

Over the knee everything. But especially socks and boots! A pair of tall socks, especially if they are a wool blend, provides a great layer of warmth that you can hide under skinny jeans or even leggings! And for extra warmth – and extra style of course!—try out a pair of leather thigh boots! This style is becoming more trendy than ever before, and serves as a great barrier to the cold when you are wearing a short skirt, dress, or even a pair of jeans.

Beanie Bandwagon. There aren’t many accessories this past year that have gotten as much play as the oversized beanie. For men, women, adults and kids, this classic winter item has taken center stage, at least for the moment. And wearing a knit hat is one of the best ways to stay warm, since humans lose most of their heat through their head. So at the risk of being a fashion victim, cover your noodle—preferably with a super cute beanie!

Blanket Scarves. I’m not sure who made it acceptable to wear what could only be described as a blanket as a fashion accessory, but I’d like to personally thank them. Usually a square piece of fabric with frayed edges, this is the perfect answer for a quick coverup between the car and the office, or as a huge cozy scarf when facing the elements. Visually it creates for a spontaneous topper to any style of outfit. The number of ways to wear a blanket scarf is only surpassed by the variety of patterns and fabrics now available. For real warmth, go for wool , or treat yourself to cashmere!

Funky layers. I know, I know. Layers in winter are nothing new. But I’m talking about funky layers that mix unlikely textures, patterns and colours. For example, try a chunky, brightly coloured knit jumper layered over a lace or floral silk tunic and a pair of leather leggings. Layering is essential to staying warm as it creates insulation between the layers, so adding a base layer of thermal undergarments is one old-school trick that will keep you toasty while the others around you are shivering.

Wool, fur and leather. The material you choose to wear is extremely important when it comes to keeping warm. Wool, fur and leather are known to be some the warmest materials available for clothing, and you can find all kinds of items made from them. A wool or leather coat, for example, will be very warm, and you don’t have to look frumpy and puffy! Of course if you are concerned about animal rights and don’t want to wear animal products, there are now synthetic versions available which are also very effective!

So be brave and beautiful this winter: show your fashion sense without freezing this season!
