Our English teacher tried to tell you. You DO need to learn how to write properly. Whether you are a college student looking to improve your essay writing skills, a blogger looking to write better content, or an internet marketer finally diving into article marketing, the truth is that what I am about to share with you is not anything new. How to write an article easily and effectively is a simple matter of following the structure and guidelines you were taught in high school. So, let’s review!
First of all, we should look at basic article structure. Same as an essay, the basic article should have an introduction, body and conclusion. But, the structure of an article doesn’t have to be as formal as that of an essay. In an article, you want to be sensitive to your reader’s likes, needs and, especially his attention span.
Paragraphs in as article should be shorter than your typical essay paragraph. Break your article up into more manageable chunks. This is particularly important when publishing your content on the internet. You do not want your reader to feel threatened by an unending sea of black. SO, write short sentences, and try to keep your paragraphs to no more than five such sentences.
What should be the first thing you write? It is NOT your introduction. In fact, it is much easier to write your introduction after the body paragraphs have been completed. Why? Because you really want your introduction to effectively outline what your article will cover. The first thing you should write is the thesis statement. That is a sentences which establishes what your entire article will be about. This is the point you are trying to make, the idea you are trying to present and/or the opinion you are going to defend. It is essential that all your paragraphs help support or build your thesis statement.
Once that is established, think of three main ideas, examples, reasons, points, or thoughts that can advance your thesis. Each one of these main points will be the subject of a separate body paragraph. In the case of articles you can actually have more than one paragraph per point, but always try to keep it simple. Elaborate each paragraph by adding three to five sentences which backup the main point in the paragraph.
Now is the time to write the introduction. Look at your body paragraphs. Write a brief paragraph enticing the reader to explore your article. Unlike essay writing, you do not have to summarize your entire article in the introduction, but you should set the stage for what they are about to find.
Next comes the conclusion. Articles are most effective when they end with a call to action of some sort. So, after giving your audience a quick recap of what you have just told them, make sure to challenge or invite them to do something with the information you provided. After all, an article is supposed to provide useful, meaningful content.
The very last thing you write should be your title. If possible, take some time away from the article before writing a title. This will help you look at the content with fresh, unbiased eyes. The title should be attention grabbing as well as a clear indication of what the article will discuss.
If your goal is article marketing, then keep in mind that keywords play a pivotal role in how to write an article for your specific purposes. Do your research carefully. Make sure your title, introduction and conclusion include your main keyword. Then use it a couple more times in the body. But only do so if it makes sense within the content. Don’t overdo it either. High keyword density within articles constitutes spam for most article directories. If you fill a page with nothing but disjointed keywords, you will be banned from posting to those sites.
How to write an article easily and effectively is a matter of going back to basics. The more you know about the subject you are writing about, the easier it will be to write. So, do your research. Write naturally, and let the content flow. The effectiveness of your article will be a bi-product of delivering what your title and introduction offer. Keep the content relevant to your thesis, and it will do what it was intended to do.
