Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead. — Gene Fowler (American journalist and biographer, 1890-1960).
I can picture you staring at that blank white document on your screen, I know that stare, I’ve been there. The walls inside your mind are blank as well, are they not? If you have trouble starting and all you see is a blank page, just start writing about anything that flashes in your mind.
It doesn’t matter what you write about, just start writing about the weather, start typing gibberish on the keys. The point is that to get the writing to start to flow; you need to give it a little nudge. Another way to get past the writer’s block is to start anywhere on your article, you don’t have to start at the beginning.
It’s best to select a subject that you’re interested in to begin writing, it will be easier for you to write about things you know. If it is a multi-faceted subject, you can create different articles from the many points of view about that subject.
Write down as many of the keywords about your chosen subject as possible, this will help you when you go to do the research for your subject. Use the Internet, go to the Library, and buy some books at the bookstore on your subject, watch videos on YouTube about your subject.
Your goal is to research your subject so well that you really understand it, you then can ask yourself questions about the subject of your interest. Write down all of the interesting facts about your subject; write down all of the answers to the questions you have asked about your subject.
Make an outline from your notes, this will serve a template for the body of your of your article. Now write the article, don’t worry about how rough it looks, just write the article all the way through. Print out the rough copy of the article and evaluate it, make the changes you want to, take your time, go take a break if you need too but, take your time to evaluate it.
This is the time where you add your ‘The Attention Grabber’, the ‘Hook’ in the main headline of your article to draw interest to it. You must do two things here: One, you must include a couple of lines in the first paragraph to elaborate a little more on the headline and two, your must fulfill statement you made, in the body of the article.
Now, write the new draft of your article, including the ‘Hook’ and finish it with a conclusion to round off the article. Print out the article and read it over slowly, evaluate it, check it for errors. If the article is now to your satisfaction, then you’re ready to submit the article for publication.
When you write, write to be informative, write to provide value to those that are reading your article. I know you want visitors to come to your website and that is probably is one of the reasons that you’re writing articles but, that should be secondary, an article that is educational should be first on your list.
Research is just a tool to set your thought free unto the world and to bring your articles to life, so have fun with your words and be informative.
