Shortcutting Your Way To A Great Sales Letter

No matter how good your product is, it isn’t going to sell itself. If you were working in the brick and mortar world, you’d address that fact by finding the best possible sales staff to help move your merchandise. As an Internet marketer, you don’t get to crowd the floor with sales pros. You have a sales letter. Your letter is your closer and it better be good if you want your product to dominate the marketplace.
What differentiates a flat, disappointing sales letter from one that seems to push products right into the hands of buyers? There are many factors at play. Words matter. The right balance between information and persuasion matters. Understanding the target audience is critical. A great sales letter, like a great salesperson, has a personality. Finding the right focus on benefits and features can be a difference-maker. Few things pack the power of a fantastic headline. The right organization will tie it all together.
That wasn’t a simple answer, was it? If you want a simple answer to why some sales pages work while others can’t pull a fraction of one percent in conversions (if anything), you’re going to be disappointed. Copywriting isn’t about one or two things. It’s about combining many different things to create a functioning whole.
Does that mean that you’re doomed to write a lousy sales letter because you aren’t a copywriting pro? Not at all. You do have a few options at your disposal. You can hunker down and start learning. You can read the work of the field’s masters. You can build and study your swipe file. You can consult with pros, test like crazy, polish up your writing skills and make a determined effort to become a passable copywriter. You can fail, correct, fail and correct until things click into place. With enough effort and a little luck, you might be able to get the job done.
That doesn’t sound too attractive, does it? The idea of intentionally enrolling in a graduate level degree program at the University of Hard Knocks isn’t all that enticing. Fortunately, there is an alternative to working like a dog to become a real copywriter capable of producing that magic sales letter. You can piggyback on someone who already knows the ropes. There are copywriters out there-good, proven professionals with track records that make Internet marketers salivate-who are ready, willing and able to provide those who don’t have the skills and experience with templates that make writing a high-conversion letter easy.
Is there shortcut to becoming a great copywriter? Not really. Is there a shortcut to writing a great sales letter? Absolutely.
