Easy Tips To Obliterate Writer’s Block

If you’re a writer, or an aspiring writer, then writer’s block is your worst enemy. Sure, it’s quite compelling to be able to stay home, work when you feel like it, and get paid as much as you’re worth. But it’s quite terrifying to hustle your you know what off in order to get clients, have a big order worth a lot of money, and then stare at a blank screen, not being able to think of anything worthwhile.
For as long as writers have been writing, writer’s block has been enemy number one. After all, what’s a writer who can’t write? You might as well hang it up and watch some TV for a while, it would be just as productive. The good news is that there are several ways you can overcome this.
One of them is to just start writing. Anything. One of the key reasons for writer’s block is that voice in your head that says, “this isn’t good enough,” or something similar. One way around this is to realize that what you write is only the first draft. Of course you’ll go back and edit it later. As soon as you start writing, your creative juices will start flowing, and everything will be fine.
But what if you can’t think of anything to write? You’ve got plenty of options. One thing you could do would be to simply start describing the things around your desk. Describe your computer screen. Describe your chair. Describe what you ate for dinner last night. Often times just seeing a few sentences and paragraphs on the screen will be enough to silence that inner critic.
Another way to get jump started in the direction of your topic is to simply describe the process by which you got your current writing job. Just write down where you found your client, how they contacted you, what you were doing when they contact you, etc. And then just kind of roll right into the topic of the article or paper you are supposed to be writing.
One more way would be to describe how you would go about researching that particular topic. This will fire up all those areas of your brain where all those ideas live. Once you get warmed up, you’ll realize you know more about it that you realize. Then you can just start writing about that, and then go back and edit everything later. You’ll find any of these methods work great. Try them next time you’re in a pinch.
