As Bloggers, we all like to write perfectly crafted, thoroughly researched and logically argued articles.
Our audience prefers them too. But what happens when you simply don't have time?
Most of us have to juggle writing articles with a host of other business pressures. And so unfortunately time constraints don't always allow us to spend as much time as we'd like on the articles but at the same time, as bloggers, we all know the importance of a consistent output.
So here's what to do when you want to write an article in 20 minutes:
1. Plan ahead - keep a list
Keep a large lined pad on your desk and whenever you're reading something or come across something that you feel you want to react to, comment upon or elaborate - make a note of it. Also keep a running list of topics / headings for future articles. When you're short on time, take a quick look at this list and pick one of the easiest topics. When you add an idea to the list allocate it a whole page and then jot notes as you think of them. One of the lengthiest tasks in writing is planning the article so if you're ready to start writing you're more than halfway there.
2. Start with questions
Start your article by asking questions. This'll not only encourage your readers to think along the lines of the article but will also give you a good framework on which to structure the article. The rest of the article can then go on to answer the question or questions you've posed. This also adds structure and discipline to your article. Alternately type out your questions on a notepad and use only the answers as the content of your article.
3. Use bullets or numbers
When you're short on time go back to the tried and trusted method of starting with bullet points - " The Seven Deadly Sins of Twitter ". Bullet out the points you want to cover in your article or keep your article a numbered one. This way you know you have to talk about the points and elaborate on them and you don't need to concern yourself about the transition from one idea to another. Keep your points and numbers realistic. You can't possibly elaborate on more than ten key points within twenty minutes.
4. Keep your article under 500 words
You can't write an entire novel in twenty minutes. It has to be a short and to the point. Try to restrict your article to four or five hundred words. It'll then be concise and short and end up being an engaging read.
