I am a natural-born motivator. I probably gave the doctor who delivered me a high-five when I was born. If I could have had a conversation then, I probably would have said, “great job Doc!” Everything I do or say revolves around my life’s purpose: to motivate others to be their best. So needless to say, when I began to contemplate writing an eBook it wasn’t difficult to choose a topic. My challenge came in:
Framing the concept
Converting it from my brain into a tangible set of achievable guidelines
Getting started
You probably are already saying, “Madeline, how are you going to write this article knowing that you already have your topic? I don’t have a clue what topic I should consider!” I totally understand how you feel. I didn’t always know my topic, but here is what I did know:
I knew my primary passion: encouraging others to achieve personal greatness
I knew I wanted to share my passion with as many people as possible. My choices were to:
Write a book/eBook
Start a blog
Participate/work more in my community (locally and online)
Develop another form of digital media for maximum dispersal (videos, podcast, forums, etc.)
I knew the Internet worked in two directions: the same way I used the it to learn from others, I could use it to teach others
So ask yourself these questions:
What is my greatest passion in life? What can I do for hours and it only seems like minutes? Write about that!
What am I naturally great (or even good) at doing? (Sometimes we are prone to looking outside of ourselves to find our answers, when we ARE the answers.)
In what subject am I an expert? (You might be a sports fanatic; or maybe a lover of fine arts; an avid movie watcher; a hair care specialist; perhaps you are a foodie! Any topic that you can talk about extensively for long periods of time is an acceptable topic for your eBook.)
What can I teach someone to do? (Are you an artist, musician, basket weaver, illustrator, programmer, chef, marathon runner? Anything that you have done once and can teach someone else to do is a potential topic for an eBook.)
Remember this: the ultimate topic for your eBook will be something that you are already doing or have a deep interest in learning. For instance, you may be a really good cook. You could potentially create an eCookBook equipped with recipes and images of your finished meals. The cool and amazing thing about eBooks and the direction of the technologies driving the industry is you can include media, hyperlinks to the Internet, and other online resources that enhance the readers’ experience.
The possibilities are unlimited. The perfect topic to your eBook could be staring back at you from the mirror every day. Think outside the box and begin exploring your options. Expressing your true self and your passion in an eBook has world changing capabilities.
