You’re either a new, or an established copywriter. How many services do you offer? Some copywriters offer a single service, such as writing Web sales pages. If you offer more services however, you will increase your income.
I’ve been writing copy for well over 30 years. Some of my clients have been with me for 15 years. I keep my clients for years, because I’m always looking for new ways I can help their businesses.
So I encourage you to extend the services you offer. Not only will you help your clients, but your copywriting business will be more profitable too.
Let’s look at some additional services you can offer.
1. Sales Copy, Web and Print
All copywriters offer straight copy: writing sales material, like advertising and press releases. Some new copywriters are focusing strictly on the Web. However, I encourage you to offer print services too. New clients tell me that it’s hard to find good writers for print material.
2. Copy Booster: Rewrite Weak Copy
Most copy is written in-house, because of the current economic climate. This means that the copy has problems. Why not create a service for rewriting weak copy?
A rewriting service is less expensive for your clients. You’ll also be able to pitch many new clients because there’s so much weak copy around.
Look for businesses you can help today.
3. Audio-Visual Copy
Every business needs to make presentations. This means that they need copy. You can write it. Beyond presentations, they need YouTube and other video scripts.
Consider radio copy too. A lot of radio copy is written by DJs. They hate it. You can approach radio stations and offer your services. You’ll get gigs, because you’re helping their staff.
4. Speechwriting
I have a friend who focuses on writing wedding speeches. This is all she does. Amazingly, she makes a very good living, just writing speeches for wedding parties. She loves weddings, and she’s made them her specialty.
She has contacts at photography studios, florists, bridal boutiques and caterers, who all send her business. She can’t keep up with the demand.
Speechwriting is specialized, but it’s also highly profitable. If you enjoy this form of copywriting, you’ll get more business than you can handle.
5. Catalog Copy
I specialized as a print catalog copywriter early in my career. These days, if I were interested in the field, I’d be looking at writing copy for online stores.
Check out online stores yourself. You’ll see that most of the copy is either copied from the manufacturers’ marketing materials, or is completely uninspired.
Writing catalog copy is another service you can offer to your clients.
So, there you have it. Five services you can offer to your clients. Spread your writing wings. Offer additional copywriting services, and not only will you make more money, but you’ll also be helping your clients.
