Balancing content with search engine optimization is the tightrope all internet based copywriters must walk. You have to make your point in limited text but you also have to accommodate Search Engine Optimization by including useful keywords that will get you noticed by search engine algorithms.
It’s like the old elementary school exercise where the teacher gives you a list of theme words and you have to quickly compose something that makes sense and meets some assignment criteria. Right, we’ve all done it but most of us not well
What most forget is that all the usual techniques learned in school still work in this situation. Start by researching your keywords on a thematic basis and try to stick to your theme in your piece. Stay focused on your purpose and theme, avoiding digressions. A need to digress is usually a sign that you need another article. Make a note and get back on track.
Pick your keywords carefully, especially so that the phrases make sense as stand alones. This makes them easier to string together. Using a decent keyword search tool is a necessity. You will find some very efficient phrases this way but some may be article killers. For example, you may find that money at home making may be more efficient as a keyword selection than making money at home but it will make you look silly, noticed but ignored by your reader.
To get noticed by search engines, use a high quality theme specific word or phrase in your title. Include five or six in your article but try not to exceed or come in under this number. Too many and the search engines will ignore you for loading up and with too few there won’t be enough potential traffic to matter. Don’t forget, competitors have access to the same keywords. Avoid the top volume picks. You’ll just get lost in the clutter.
Getting traffic through copywriting online is not as hard to learn as one might think. One key learning strategy is to collect copywriting samples of good quality for analysis. Look at what makes them good pieces. There is a good chance that you will find the best keywords, the theme keywords, in the headline. Use this as a base to find other theme keywords and look for them in the piece.
As a copywriter online you will not find an exhaustive tool kit here, just a few strategies for raising the quality of what you write and making yourself a little more visible.
