In the day and age we are in, it is very hard to secure a well-paying job. And with that, it is easy to become frustrated and insecure when you send out what feels like hundreds of resumes, and are not getting a single interview.
That is why it is extremely important to not just create a resume; you need to create the perfect resume. Think of all the people who are in the exact same situation you are in. You need to ensure that your resume stands out above the rest.
Think ahead
A lot of people fall victim to writing about what they did in the past. That isn’t surprising. A chronological resume gives details about previous work history. How can one not write about the past?
It is important to create a resume that is focused on the future, which is the position the resume is aimed for. To do that, make sure that the achievement statements under each job heading is geared toward the position that is being sought.
For example, if you are applying for the position of sales manager, and the previous position held was salesperson, don’t focus on what you did precisely. Gear your achievements to what is expected of a sales manager. A sales manager should be experienced in the art of sales. Then make sure under the achievements you make the point to tell potential employer that you are very experienced in sales and how that would benefit them if you were their sales manager.
Say Less, Not More
In today’s job market, the potential employer only spends about 10 seconds looking over a resume. You need to catch their attention in those 10 seconds. That is why it is important to make sure you are saying less.
By saying less, you are bringing more value to the table. You are still marketing yourself and selling your best attributes, but you are eliminating all the fluff and cliches. How many times do you think a potential employer sees the phrase ‘hard worker with desire to advance career’? You have to eliminate these needless phrases and be bold, exciting, and fresh.
No matter the career you want to have, or the experience you already have, a perfect resume is essentially needed. Without that resume that will knock potential employers off their feet, you are just another fish in a large pond. You need to stand out by making your resume one-of-a-kind and ensure that potential employers come calling.
