Plenty of people are scraping by writing for a living. It’s a pretty easy business to get into, as there seems to be an endless amount of people out there that need content. There’s plenty of “content farms” to set yourself up on, and write for a couple cents a word. This can get you some decent income, but you’re limited.
If you want to start making some serious cash, you’ve got take it to the next level. This isn’t as difficult as most people think. Actually, it’s pretty easy. The reason so many people think that it’s difficult is that it seems like sales. And if you’re like most people, you hate sales.
Maybe you can remember as a kid having to sell something for school or some other group. Sure, it seemed like it would be fun at first, but after fifty people in a row told you to leave them alone, you got a different idea about it.
Or maybe every time you walk into a store, or a car lot, or somebody comes by your home at night, you think to yourself, “why must salespeople be so pushy?” So naturally, if you were to consider yourself in their shoes, you’d feel pretty uncomfortable.
The truth is that getting more clients, and earning more money isn’t like those kinds of sales at all. Sure, if you got on the phone and started calling people, and tried convincing them that they should buy your writings, that would be one thing.
But successful writers don’t do that. They set up web pages, with some of their best work. They drive people to their sites, and let the readers choose whether or not they need some writing done. The most successful writers that are consistently making a killing are getting contacted by their clients, not the other way around.
Once you’ve got your website set up, there’s a couple ways you can build your book. One is to figure out ways to drive people to your site. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, banner ads, PPC ads, Craigslist, you name it. The more people come by, the more people will hire you.
Or, you could use your website as a reference. Apply for jobs directly. Plenty of places exist for this purpose. If you apply for ten jobs a day, write a good blurb describing yourself and your services, maybe five of those folks will check out your site. And maybe one of them will hire you.
And if you can pick up a new client every day, you’ll be making tons of cash in no time.
