Brain Busting Tips To Boost Your Creativity

If you are a writer, your creativity is your lifeblood. Sure, it might be fun to write, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” over and over again, but you wouldn’t like be able to sell it to anybody. In order to continue to sell your writings, you’ve got to be creative.
This is true whether you are a ghost blogger, a paid article writer, a non fiction writer or a novelist. Nobody likes reading the same old stuff over and over again. That’s why always working on your creativity is essential.
One simple way is to cross train. Just like with sports, training in exercises that aren’t directly related to your sport can really help. Weight lifting can help sprinters, jogging can help weight lifters, and swimming can help baseball players.
What does this mean to you as a writer? At least once a week, you should write about something you’re completely unfamiliar with. If you are a science writer, write about the Opera. If you are a novelist, write an article explaining how to reformat a hard drive. If you write how-to articles, compose some poetry.
This will fire up areas of your brain that you don’t normally use. That way, when you go and write your regular stuff, you’ll have a bigger brain to work from.
Another trick to boost your creative juices is to write your regular stuff, but pretend you are somebody else. For example, instead of being your same old self writing about the benefits of vitamin D, write the same article, but instead pretend you are Moses or Achilles. Or somebody more familiar, like your High School science teacher.
When you try this, you’ll be surprised what additional insights you find. You’ll be writing in a way that you wouldn’t normally recognize.
A quick way to change the way you think about what you write would be to write at a different time of day. Many writers have a regular schedule, which is good. But if you write when you’re normally watching TV or doing something else, you might find some insights that are otherwise staying hidden. Getting into a routine can make your writing more efficient, but efficiency and creativity don’t always go hand in hand.
Another interesting way to get a new look on things is go somewhere in public, like a coffee shop or the library. When you’re writing, pretend you are standing up on your soap box lecturing everybody in the room. Look at all the people as you’re writing, and assume whatever you want about them. Them write your message so it’s tailored just for them.
These tips will certainly get you out of a slump and give you that spark you need. Try one today and see what happens.
