5 Top Reasons Why You Can’t Afford NOT To Write Every Day

As a creative writer, finding consistency in your writing is crucial for you to be able to write anywhere near your full potential.
Writing everyday is the best way to achieve this, here are 5 of the top reasons why:
1. It fits your natural rhythms. We’re all a part of the natural world where the sun rises each morning and sets each night. Because of this we’ve built our calendars around the structures already there in nature. Whether you prefer to write early in the morning, mid afternoon or late at night, by creating at the same time each day you allow yourself to fall in to the same natural rhythms that are all around you. So your writing flows more easily, instinctively, and, well, as nature intended!
2. It gives your creativity permission to be prolific. Permission is a huge element in being free to create consistently and prolifically, and there are many ways we unknowingly deny our creativity this permission. When you commit to writing everyday, you’re simply saying to your creativity – “Come out to play, show me what you do, I want to see how amazing you are”. Your creativity will respond like a kid who’s been grounded for a year and just set free in the biggest toyshop in the world!
3. It reduces anxiety and the pressure to perform. Maybe now you only write once a week, or every now and then “when you have time”. Chances are, each time you do sit down to write, the expectation is high, and you feel you’ve got to write something incredible to justify having made the time to write. Not the ideal circumstances for easy and fluid writing to take place! Create everyday and you know you have far more opportunity to write, so that pressure to perform each time is greatly reduced. As a result, you write more freely and more confidently.
4. It encourages play and experimenting. This follows on from no3. When you create everyday, you feel far more free to experiment and try different writing styles and techniques. You know that if you commit your writing sessions for the next 3 days to experimenting with short poems for example, then on day 4 you can either continue to explore these if you’re enjoying them, or move on to trying something else. The more you play and experiment, the richer, the more varied and the more rewarding your writing becomes.
5. It enables you to write ANYTHING by writing one section at a time. Whether you want to write a 3 line poem or a 333 chapter novel, you can write it one section at a time when you write everyday. A steady regular approach allows you to break down your work into one chunk at a time., making it far more manageable and less daunting. And you’ll amaze yourself at how much writing for 15 or 30 minutes a day adds up to in just a matter of weeks.
These are 5 of the top reasons why writing everyday is a creative writing secret you can’t afford to overlook.
Commit to just 15 minutes a day, at the same time each day, give it a couple of weeks and you’ll have the foundations for a powerful writing habit that will enable you to finally reach your true creative writing potential.
