How To Write Content For Your Website

If you own an affiliate website, your homepage will need a bulleted list of the products you are offering. Answer your visitors questions and tell him why he should buy from you. You could then list the benefits of shopping on your site. The Ad copy will be the text on your site. You must write this in such a way as to sell products. Your text must be salesmanship in print. The text on your site is your way of communicating with your visitors. Here are a few things to bear in mind when writing copy for your website.
You will need to focus more on the benefits of the products and less on the features.
You need to grab your prospects attention within the first 10 seconds. Use an exiting headline and opening paragraph.
When writing, make sure that your text is in present tense, for instance, ‘this is’ rather than ‘this was.’
Watch your spelling and grammar.
Read through your writing a couple of times to make sure that it flows.
Write in an active voice to get your potential customer to take action. An example of active versus passive is: passive – a 60% improvement was seen. Active – our clients experienced a 60% improvement.
Try to create a picture in your customers head with your writing. You can do this by using specific nouns and verbs. Describe specific situations like instead of ‘this will make the letters bigger’, say ‘aren’t you tired of squinting at the lettering?’
Make your text skimable, by using short sentences that get to the point. Use short paragraphs. Try using bullets with only two to three words per bullet for more impact.
Make sure you don’t go overboard with your fonts and colours.
Your homepage is there to direct your customer to your products. You will need to have a striking headline, great introduction which includes a preview of what they will find. The body is about what you do and what you offer. Your conclusion will be something like enjoy shopping with us, or enjoy browsing this website.
Prepare your text first by knowing who your target customer is. Answer all his questions, and to do this you will have to put yourself in the mind of your customer and come up with some relevant key words. Connect with your customers and get them to feel the benefits of the product.
Brainstorm and list all the arguments for and against the product. Answer all the concerns that you may think of. Stay clear and concise, and answer all the key points. Turn your customers want into a need. Try not to go overboard with too much detail and provide links to other pages for more features and benefits. Features are the key points of a product and benefits are what the product will do for the customer.
Most websites are opened with the intention of selling something. Learning to do copy writing is a skill that is priceless to have, and it will stand you in good stead for any of your marketing needs.
