Should there be an appropriate writing style for SEO writing? In mathematics, science, or social studies, we study the exact same materials and come up with the an identical solution. In writing, it’s called copying. Our tone, however, is the collective effect we have on our readers. It says about our personality and makes our writing unique.
Writing tone and voice
Writing tone is what the writers feel about the subject while voice is the personality expressed in writing. I learned that a writers’ voice or tone builds a bridge between you and your readers. Your writers’ voice has to be freed; it can’t be learned. It’s your fingerprint, your individual style that gives your content soul.
Your first choice is to choose the topic to write about. If you want to write well, you have to care about the topic. If you are not interested, chances are, your reader won’t be curious either. This has something to do with the way you feel about things and communicate strong feelings. Because when your readers sense your individuality, they’ll pick up your writers’ voice. Finding your writers’ voice is about taking risks and trusting your hunches. If you practice the rules of persuasive writing, your will develop and free your writer’s voice, and your style will ultimately emerge and shine.
Tone and attitude
Your writing voice represents your personality and style as a writer. Your tone, on the other hand, reflects your mood and attitude of in relation to its goal and audience. This is a bit tricky as writers often think of tone as a formality measure with more serious mood and writing style thinking that their copy will be more welcome than the laid-back tone. While this is true to some degree, I am more concerned how the information, logic, and resources are orchestrated. Striking a more serious tone to sound authoritative is not relative to trust when not matched with the tone of the goal.
It’s easy and convenient to write something that sounds professional but did you strike the right mood? Remember that, you don’t always have to be serious to be taken seriously as it is not the only measure of a professional tone nor humorous writing to be funny. A polite writing tone must capture the right mood. It’s not condescending, and must engage the readers. Writer’s voice, and your style will ultimately emerge and shine.
Choosing a Tone
Choosing a writing tone and editing it to reflect my mood works best for me. However, while I may not consistently be correct, I also take suggestions into consideration because I can view my work better through their eyes and give it a new perspective. They may not constantly be precise, but they won’t always be wrong.
Developing your writing style
If you want to develop your writing style, read voraciously and write as much as you can. Get familiar with tools at your disposal like dictionaries, and thesaurus to develop your style and tone. Use words that come naturally to you because using words to sound impressive and misusing it is like bad grammar.
Your writing style which is the manner you express yourself will evolve naturally over time. This can be developed through the combination of your personality, reading choices and the conscious decisions you make while writing.
Your writing goal must be to communicate so be concise and avoid stereotypes and cliches. Be precise and pay attention to your word choice.
