Many Internet marketers starting out ask what makes sales letters persuasive? There are several key elements that make a sales letter persuasive to prospects or customers. There are “hooks” experienced Internet marketers use to grab their prospects or customers to keep them reading. It compels them to buy that product or service, which is the ultimate purpose of a sales letter.
Here are a few examples that will help you to understand how to write an effective sales letter.
Use a pre-headline right before the main headline. This helps to reassure visitors that the following material will be relevant to them. This is, of course, assuming they are your target market. An example of an effective pre-headline is “If you are a (mention your target audience)”.
Now for the headline hook. The purpose of a headline in sales letters is to grab the attention of the readers in your target market. It compels them to read the next paragraph.
Focus on the biggest benefit of your product or service. In this case it’s to get more money from whatever your target audience would be. It doesn’t need to be the biggest benefit, but it needs to be one that is going to grab your readers attention, and compel them to read on. Notice the key words “Here is how to…”. Using those few “dots” is effective, it’s part of what compels your readers to read further.
Effective sales letters contain powerful paragraphs. Make the first two or three paragraphs the most powerful of your sales letter. This is where visitors will decide if they are going to give you their full attention. Never start out with talking about yourself. Instead ask the reader a few questions that would apply to their life such as “Have you ever…”. An example would be “Have you ever found yourself tired and stressed from a long day at your boring job?”
This gets the reader involved. Of course they answer “Yes!” to themselves. It gets them thinking, and urges them to read on and find out more. Follow up each question with “If you have ever felt this way, then pay attention to what I am going to tell you”, this is the reason why readers keep reading. Visitors will only read for so long. It has to be relevant and interesting to keep them reading.
These are the key components to effective sales letters.
