The Fête de la Musique or Music Day is a free popular event, open to any participant  who wants to perform in it. Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for culture, the Fête de la Musique is held in more than hundred countries in Europe and over the world : Paris, Rome, London… It takes place every 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere.

The musicians play in open air areas as streets and parks or in public buildings like museums, train stations, castles and they are asked to perform for free, and all the concerts are free for the public. The Music Day 2007 was a very successful event!

The spirit of «la Fête» allows the expression of all styles of music:  for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. The musicians are a mix of professionals and amateurs and the festival policy is to give an equal place to amateur musicians, rock, jazz, singing and traditional music, the"serious music". String quartets and steel bands play on street corners and accordionists wander among the crowds.

During the Music’s feast,  Paris’s  very beautiful and full of culture, people and life: it’s very difficult to found a room in the centre.  If you wish to visit Paris in the Fete de la Musique’ day, we advise you to choose  a "Bed & Breakfast Paris" Network’s B&B in Paris and…to do it before it’s too late!!!
