When Gov. Christie was voted took office January 19, 2010, he probably did not imagine his term would go quite the way it has gone along. In some things he has done a pretty good job and in others he probably could have done better. His strong personality has reached beyond the Jersey Shores and spanned across the USA. He is outspoken about the issues he cares about, and that is what had made him popular among voters and unpopular among politicians.
When he we was elected to the Governor’s office of New Jersey he won against the Incumbent, Jon Corzine, with 48% of the vote. Although he has had some interesting controversy his approval rating has remained positive. The last poll to measure his approval rating came in at 73%. This poll was taken after the events of Hurricane Sandy. His response to the damage to the state and the effect it has on his state’s citizens has endeared him to state residents, but not so much with Republican Conservatives and so-called Teabaggers who feel has changed his tune in an attempt to gain popularity as a run-up toward the 2016 Presidential election because many people expect him to run.
He is a frank man who holds nothing back. When he travelled around in the hurricane damage with President Obama, he told the press that he was impressed with Obama’s actions. This statement was not popular among Republicans in light of the fact that the country was currently embroiled in a heated Presidential battle for the office between Obama and Mitt Romney.
Later, after the initial turmoil of Hurricane Sandy he reacted strongly when congress delayed voting on funds needed by his state’s residents when he said, “This is why Americans hate congress!” These types of statements have further endeared him to the people of his state which is reflected in these approval ratings that continue to rise as he simply tells it like it is.
If he can continue to be the man who calls things as he sees them without concern for what his political party line says he should or shouldn’t say, he will be able to ride that popularity wave to Presidential candidacy. Whether he can win or not on popularity alone remains to be seen, but so long as he stays brash and forthright he may even win over democrats who may not agree with his party, but they agree with him when he speaks.
So, how has Governor Chris Christie done as Governor, you ask? His policies are for the most part in keeping with the Republican Party line which most people don’t pay as much attention to as they should. But when it comes to speaking his mind and taking care of his people he is very good and quite exciting. He fights for the little man, which is usually the domain of Democrats, with strong words that get the attention of the citizens, Congress and the White House.
