Four times a year, businesses approach the beginning of a new quarter. Whether it’s summer or holiday season, if you didn’t take the time earlier to make sure all your marketing ducks were in a row, now’s the time to wrangle ’em up. Here are just a few suggestions about what to focus on.
SEO. Whether it’s Google Ad Words or your website copy, if you haven’t looked at your SEO in awhile, you may be losing out on some business. The search engine algorithms change often to keep people honest, so check in with your SEO specialist. He or she will know what the latest developments are and will have some suggestions about how to keep your SEO on the cutting edge.
Send out that newsletter. If you’ve never done an internal or client newsletter, now is a great time to start. Your employees and clients will appreciate the acknowledgement and community building that newsletters can generate, especially during the holiday season. The key is to then make that newsletter a monthly or quarterly tradition. Remember, whether it’s clients or staff, constant communication is key.
Leverage social media. I’m not ashamed; I don’t know everything there is to know about social media. That’s why I’m a copywriter and not a social media expert. But I am smart enough to go to the pros when I want to educate myself. And social media has become an important part of our everyday marketing lives, so I’m always looking for experts in that field. I think the Social Media Examiner has a ton of helpful information about how to leverage social media to your advantage. Pay attention; these sleuths really know their stuff and they want you to benefit from their knowledge.
Review and refresh marketing materials. Your business is constantly growing, right? So it only makes sense to give your marketing materials a face lift every few months. Whether it’s your website, brochure, sell sheets, catalogues or radio, TV and print ads, take another look at your materials to make sure they reflect who your company is now. Plus, the holiday season is the perfect opportunity to create some holiday-targeted materials. This is the time of year when people are simultaneously excited and stressed out. If you can cater to their need to enjoy the fun stuff or ease their concerns, then make sure they know it!
Business owners are equally excited and stressed out at that time of year. But if you take the time to talk to your experts and put all those marketing ducks in a row, every quarter should flow like water off a duck’s back. So, get quacking…uh…cracking!
