How To Succeed in Business – Website Copywriting Tips

Copywriting has been around for a couple of centuries. Website copywriting is a much newer concept. But these days there are very few businesses that don’t use the Internet. And the businesses that succeed are the ones that have learned the art of persuasive website copywriting.
So whether you need to write website copy for your own business, or someone is hiring you to do it, you have to learn to do it effectively. Here are some website copywriting tips to start you off.
The offer is everything. Master this simple fact and you’re halfway there. Why is this? Because your potential customers are saturated with sales material. They are bombarded with advertising from TV, magazines, newspapers, billboards, cinemas. They are so used to it that it doesn’t even register any more. To overcome this, you have to come up with an offer that is both so compelling and so believable it stops them in their tracks. So sit down and work on your offer, before you write a word of your actual copy. Edit and re-edit. Try it out on trusted friends. It’s worth the time and effort, beause when you’ve got this, the rest of the copy almost writes itself.
Craft your headline. Start your web copy with a sizzling, attention provoking headline that they can’t get away from. It must be long enough to make it clear what your offer is, but not so long that they can’t read it in a second or two. Back it up with a sub-headline that tells a bit more of the story. Don’t waste your resources with a jokey phrase or a play on words. It’s amazing how many people do this. The only type of headline that will be any use is one that grabs them by the throat and forces them to pay attention. It must make your offer, and make it clearly. And make the promise of what they will gain by reading on.
Put yourself in the searcher’s shoes. What are they looking for? How can you provide it? What problems do they have? How can you solve their problems? By approaching your customer’s problem or question from every possible angle, you’ll find you have content written for all the keywords your potential customers might use. This will be powerful content because it’s exactly what they are looking for. Combined with your compelling offer, you’ll have content that can’t fail.
Focus on the end result. When putting yourself in your searcher’s shoes, forget your product or service and focus on the end result they are looking for. Your product or service is just a means to that end! So when they come to your site, that will be what grabs their attention. They don’t really want a lawnmower – they want a perfect lawn that the neighbors will envy, with the least possible work. So that is what you promise them.
Of course there is lots more to website copywriting than this. But if you follow these website copywriting tips, you’ll be well on the way to being able to create powerful compelling copy that gets results. Anything else is a waste of time – so persevere till you get it right.
