Any article writer knows that the mind can sometimes work faster than the fingers can type. This can lead to errors in sentence structure; grammar and spelling that can make an article seem poorly written. For this reason, it is important to always proofread your articles before you submit them. Even if it’s a simple article or blog for your own site or something you are writing for fun and enjoyment, it’s helpful to take the time to read over it at least once, to be sure there are no simple mistakes getting overlooked.
The following are two common issues to watch out for:
“There, they’re and their” are some commonly misplaced words that are not caught by a spell checker because, quite frankly, they are not spelled wrong. But they can be used incorrectly. “There” signifies where something is located, the contraction ‘they are’ is represented by “they’re”, and “their” is a possessive word such as that is their house. There are other similar words that are spelled differently and have different meaning but which sound the same. Keep an eye out for these words and correct them when you see them.
If you have put in long days writing, it is important that you go back the next day and proofread those articles you wrote when you were tired. Many times we feel we need to push on because of deadlines but many times the quality of the articles can be lacking. Proofreading them the next day allows you to see them with fresh eyes and you can pick up any mistakes that were made.
Any good writer knows the importance of editing and proofreading their articles before submission. Small errors can be a big deal to many. Clients tend to hire those who write good quality, original and error free-documents. This can also cost you readers because some mistakes can cause them to lose confidence in your abilities and your qualifications in writing such an article. Bad spelling and grammatical errors can even make an article incomprehensible. Make sure you look over ever article carefully before you submit or publish them.
If you don’t want to interrupt the creative process, you can write several articles at once in batches and then edit them later or even the next day, before submitting. This is a great way to get more out of the time that you spend writing and editing.
