Copywriting – Finding YOUR Target Audience

There’s more to copywriting than words on a page, though each of those words is important. Previously I have outlined what the basic structure of copy should be. I’ll go over that briefly again here (after all it’s always good to have a reminder).
* Mini – Headline (The short small headline above the main headline)
* Main Headline (Make this big and bold)
* Sub-headline (Hook)
* Introduce yourself. (Confirm your prospects problems and challenges and let them know you understand)
* Sub-headline: (Introduce your product here)
* Highlight the benefits of your product
* Testimonials: Include a collection of neatly-lined up testimonials and endorsements
* Bonuses (optional)
* Guarantee
* Call to action (Reason To Buy now!)
* Persuade your prospect to buy now. Include Order Form here
* Signature and Picture (A hand written signature adds more power to your sales letter)
* PS’s (Include the Main Benefits of owning your product)
* Final Order Button
* Contact Details (Make sure your email address isn’t clickable or you will get spammed)
* Privacy/Disclaimer
Before you go through any of that though you have to know your target audience. These are the people who will want or need your product and that isn’t going to be everyone. If you think it is you need to take a better look at your product. People are at different parts of their life, focused on different things. A twenty year old may be thinking of buying a car or moving out of their parent’s house, where an eighty year old will have a completely different thought.
1. Figure out who your product serves best – This can often be done by reviewing the product itself. If you’re selling ways to make money you’ll be focusing on the more entrepreneurial minded individual.
2. Place yourselves in your prospects shoes – What do they want? What are their dreams and aspirations? Play a little game in your mind where you ARE them. It will help get you in the right state of mind to write the copy that will catch their attention and keep it.
3. Do some research – Find other products that are the same or similar to yours and find out if they’re doing well. If so, why? Do the research on your keywords, content, and the demographics of your audience. The more you understand about them the easier it will be to write to them in a way that will reach their minds and hearts and keep them coming back to you for more.
