Wear a piece of history on your nose!

Aviator sunglasses, as we all know them today, were originally designed by Ray Ban in 1936 to meet the needs of the United States Army Air Corps.

It goes without saying that flight procedures were much different back then.
Let’s think for example about open cockpits. The sun represented indeed a huge problem for vision during the day: pilots did need good anti-glare sunglasses to shield their eyes from its rays.

Ray Ban had a design that could do the job: they totally covered eyes and even a good portion of eyes’socket.

These googles became a real trademark accessory for pilots! That is why the name Aviator sunglasses was coined. Have you ever seen old aviation photos or movies?

After the advent of closed cockpits, goggles were no longer necessary to protect pilots’ eyes from the sun light.

In 1937, Ray Ban began selling their new aviator shades to common people.

The rest is history.

The aviator shade design was a fashion success and remains such even today.

During the years, many sunglasses manufacturers have taken the aviator shade as a model to copy. We cannot count how many cheap replica aviator shades are sold by no-name brands.

However, if you want to own an original pair of aviator googles you need to pay and get your personal Ray Ban sunglasses.

It is worth it.
