Copywriting Tips – The Cream Filled Center

Copywriting is an interesting art. Parts of it are very easy and then there are some parts where you just sit there with a blank screen and don’t know what to do. If you’re wondering what I am talking about, I think you’ll want to read this article about the “cream filled center.” It just may keep YOURS from going sour on you.
If you’re like most copywriters, you start off by spending countless hours on a killer headline. We know that your headline is going to account for about 80% of your sales, so we slave over it to make sure it’s as good as it can be. And then of course, when it comes to our close, we really lay it on thick and let the prospect know that if they pass on this great offer, they’re going to kick themselves in the morning. But what about the middle of our copy? This is where we, many times, drop the ball…either because we don’t know what to say or we don’t know what order to say it in. Well, if you’re one of those people who can’t get the middle of your copy to shine like your headline and your close, these tips should help.
One great way to get the middle of your copy in order is to write down all the parts of it that you’re planning to put together, such as bullet points, testimonials, social proof, and so on, and then decide in which order you’re going to present them. There is no right or wrong to this. Some copywriters even lead off with testimonials and this works just fine. Just make a decision and stick with it. Naturally, you will want to test different variations of this order to see which one works best.
Another way to get the middle of your copy to shine is to lay it out as if you were telling a story. For example, let’s say you’re selling a product that is a treatment for baldness. You might want to lay out a story where you begin with how you first noticed how you went bald, how it affected your self esteem, how you tried many products that didn’t work, how you find this miracle treatment, how your hair started to grow back and finally how it turned your whole life around. This is a natural progression of events that makes it very easy to tell what I call “story copy.”
By following the above tips, you should have no trouble making that cream filled center sweet and delicious and turn many prospects into paying customers.
