Article writing can be daunting when you don’t know where to start. If you are an affiliate marketer or do anything on the Internet, you know that you will need to communicate with people. In the recent past this was usually done by the written word alone but today you can use audio or video to get your ideas across to people.
Not everyone has either the technical skills or the voice for audio and not everyone has the time, technical skills or equipment to do a reasonably good video to get their ideas out to people so we are back to the tried and true of the written word. After all, the world wide web is largely composed of words and websites.
To do internet marketing or work on the internet in one or other of the hundreds of ways available to make money on the internet, you will need to be able to type, write or make websites. Here we are concerned with the task of article writing and ways we can approach the job.
Sitting in front of an empty computer screen is scary. Before you sit down to write an article, think of someone that you would like to share some of the information you have, with. Imagine them sitting in front of you or beside you enjoying a coffee and you are chatting with them. If it is someone close to you and you have a photo, put the photo in front of you and ‘talk’ to them via the keyboard. This conversational writing is the one I really enjoy doing.
If you are going to take this approach though you need to know that the person is relatively interested in the subject matter. There’s nothing harder than trying to explain to someone an idea or concept, when the person you are ‘talking to’ has absolutely no interest in the matter. So if you going to use this approach, best to think of someone who wants to know the information.
I also find asking myself some questions helps me to sort out my thinking. One of my favourites is “…And the point is..?” This one hauls me back on track when I get a bit too verbose which is one of my failings. Another good question I have for myself is one of Dr. Phil’s “…and is that working for you?” When you read over what you have written using these questions, you are then able to edit your article more easily.
When we sit down to write we need to know the purpose of the article. What information are you trying to express? If you are writing an article to market a website, then obviously the article is best to be related to the same subject as the website. This is where using keywords in your article title, once or twice in the body of your article and lastly, in your signature file is essential. Knowing what these keywords are first by doing some in-depth keyword research, which you have done anyway prior to building your website, makes the topic choice easy.
I also prefer to use a selection of LSI keywords. What is LSI? It stands for Latent Semantic Indexing which, in short, simply means words related to the subject matter. Use of these words in an article is essential because it gives your writing and knowledge of the subject a depth that is not present if you only use what I call the ‘major’ keywords. These major keywords are keywords /phrases that I am trying to get page rank from Google for so I get a high PR in the SERPs.
Ideally, using both major keyword and LSI words gives a much broader and more interesting article and is much more fun to write by talking about the subject.
