5 Tips From An Author Of Over 50 Ebooks

I’ve been writing and selling ebooks online for almost a decade now – since 2004. In 2011, I basically wrote and published one ebook a week for the entire year. 1. Narrow the Scope of Your Topic: What I mean by this is to basically niche it. For example, if you want to write an ebook on how to find freelance writing jobs, don’t try to cover everything. Narrow the topic down to “how to find blogging jobs,” or “how to find ebook writing jobs.”

2. Create an Outline: It doesn’t have to be an official outline (although the more detailed you are, the faster your writing will go). Just compose a list of the broad topics you want to cover in your ebook.
Think of topics in terms of individual chapters. Then, list bullet points that you want to cover under each broad heading. This is the text of your individual chapters.

3. Create an Ebook Writing Schedule: I’ve written ebooks in as little as one day – really! For newbies, a realistic schedule is about a week or two for a title of 30 to 50 pages. That’s a good length for a short fiction novella, for example, or a niche-specific, how-to ebook (the genre I write in).
So, create a schedule – one that will not only have you pumping out a certain number of pages per day, but include time for editing and proofreading. Then, adhere to it.
4. Write: Once you have your outline and have your schedule in front of you, it’s time to crank out the subject matter. When you write, just write. Don’t worry about grammar and all that other stuff. Just write. I call this doing a brain purge. Write until you’ve addressed every topic in your outline.
5. Proof/Edit: When learning how to write an ebook, one of the things that slows many down is the proofing/editing stage because they get stuck in rewriting, editing and changing stuff. If you keep doing this, you’ll never get done.
