How To Improve Your Direct Sales Copywriting Skills

Direct sales copywriting is a style of writing that speaks directly to your customer. There are several types of copywriting, including pre-sale, up-sell, and down-sell copy, among others. However, direct sales copywriting is most likely the style that we think of when we think of copywriting in general. This article presents a few ideas to help you improve your copywriting skills.
1. Speak on a personal level
Successful copywriting is all about speaking directly to your customers on a personal level. You need to make your sales copy sound as if you wrote it just for them. Use words that speak directly to your customers, such as the word “you” often throughout your copy. Personalize everything that you say as much as you possibly can.
2. Understand your audience and recognize their needs
Think about the product that you sell and what need that product fills, and then tailor your copy to read as if every person has that problem. People are looking for information that will solve a problem or help them make a purchasing decision. Give them what they are looking for.
3. Address Real Problems in a conversational way
One thing to remember about direct sales copywriting is that not every person that reads your copy will actually have that problem. However, those who do will think that you are speaking directly to them when you write in a conversational and personal style. This is a great way to improve the amount of sales and conversions from your sales copy.
4. Write About What Your Readers Are Interested In
When your sales copy contains information about the things your readers are interested in, they are much more likely to take out their pocketbooks and buy whatever product or service you are promoting.
For instance, if you are selling a product in the allergy niche, you might say something like this: “Remember the other day when you couldn’t stop sneezing? It seemed like everything from the dust to the sunlight was affecting your allergies. Wouldn’t it be great to get these problems under control?”
Statements like this speak directly to the customer. If the reader has been experiencing allergy attacks and is looking for relief, he or she is much more likely to hear what you have to say, and respond to your offer.
5. Hone Your Writing skills
You can improve your direct sales copywriting through repeated practice. As with any form of writing, you need to write as much as you can and be prepared to change your style to fit your audience. Eventually you will be able to quickly write compelling sales copy that is sure to elicit a response from your readers.
