The genre of writing life stories deserves a special kind of attention these days. The most gifted learners can find that biographies and autobiographies can actually become efficient role models on how to live their own lives. The most prominent and successful people can teach about success, failures and difficulties in life as they concurrently encourage learners to live to the fullest. Educators may recommend biographies as reading materials that are related to certain content areas.
Biographies, especially the ones that show God-given talents, can edify the reader about academics, the performing arts, leadership or creativity. The lives, therefore, project the endowments in every race or socioeconomic level.
There are three criteria when it comes to an effective biography or autobiography –
The story should have been written by a reputable author.
The author must detail the gifted behaviors and traits of the featured person.
The story must also include thought-provoking concerns, situations or personal needs which readers can easily identify with.
As you read about a supposedly inspiring life story, try to find out if these questions have been answered –
What was the person’s most notable achievements?
Has his childhood been clearly recorded?
What kind of obstacles was the person able to overcome?
Did the world become a better place because of the subject’s achievements?
What has satisfied the person about his accomplishments?
What the person’s next goals and aspirations are.
It is also important to read about highlights in the person’s life such as family reunions, where his birthday celebrations have been held, awards and ceremonies that he attended.
Reading through biographies has its value. The most inspiring stories can give a sense of confidence in readers. The noble examples of those who lived before us or are still living as pillars of the society can serve as beacons of hope in living one’s life to the fullest. Just think of the lofty ideals that you can learn from; the sincerity and earnestness to reach even the highest goals; and the sense of direction that you can take in order to become more productive in this lifetime.
Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru and many others have laid down their moving life stories for the world to read so it would be a waste to leave their accounts unnoticed. These are the very men that enthused the world yet reading their in-depth autobiography gives you a fuller and better look at the real man.
In essence, biography is not just about facts and dates; it is someone’s history that has the power to inspire and guide any bookworm. Thus, it is up to the learner to shake off apathy and to allow himself to be inspired by the ideals written all over the book.
Hero worship will always be an inherent characteristic of mankind and for as long as this passion remains in each of us, biographies will continue to motivate people to live their best lives.
