Short Cocktail Dresses Showing Charm of Women

Sometimes, even at more formal or serious events, you get the urge to show a little skin. How to do so at your next evening dinner party without looking like you are headed to sling back shots at some trendy bar? Instead of your standard sleeved or strapped dresses, you can opt for a strapless cocktail dress. This is like a normal cocktail dress. It hits just above or at the knees, and is made of nicer material with more sophisticated styling. The only difference is the absence of sleeves. Sleeves are good as they provide coverage for those of you who do not have very slender arms. Even simple straps are better then nothing on heavier types, as visually they do make one appear thinner. Therefore, if you are above average weight or plus sized, strapless cocktail dresses may not work for you. Strapless styles tend to often make ones arms and shoulders look larger, as there is nothing there to separate or define them slightly.

If you are on the not so svelte side and do decide to wear a strapless cocktail dress, there are a few tips. Pick one that has more embellishment on the lower part of the skirt, to draw attention away from your upper half and arms. Dark colours are always more slimming, so perhaps one in black or a neutral is a more flattering choice. A shrug, shawl or jacket that matches or complements the dress is almost a necessity. It provides coverage yet still allows you to wear the dress. Due to its strapless nature, you can not wear a normal bra with a strapless cocktail dress, unless you want to look tacky. Clear strap bras are also not an option, as they can look trashy and when you are wearing a dress to a nice event you do not ever want to come across as trashy. You must wear a strapless bra, and it should not be visible.

Depending on the style of the strapless cocktail dress and material, if you have smaller, perky breasts, you may not need to wear a bra at all. If you choose this option, make sure nothing is visible and that it is not clearly obvious that you are braless. Generally these dresses are not low cut in the back, but if a bra would be noticeable, and you need one, there are cups that you can wear that can do the trick. If you are extremely flat-chested, this is one look that you may have to pass on. Not pass on, that is, but definitely pass on many dresses. Because you are lacking in the bosom department, it often can be harder for strapless cocktail dresses to stay up. Often they slide down, and you definitely want to avoid an indecent exposure incident! When buying a dress make sure it has elastic or fits tightly in the bodice or firmly so that it stays in place.

For those of you women who are very busty, you might want to skip this look altogether. Although you do have the goods to hold the Short Cocktail Dresses up, this look is not always very flattering on your body type. Plus, the fact that some of the dresses you can not wear certain or any bras with will not work, as you will not be receiving the support or coverage you need.
