3 Ways You Enhance Your Creative Writing When You Use A Writing Journal

One of the secrets to being able to write consistently, and to fully explore the depth and range of your creative writing abilities is to use a creative writing journal.
A writing journal is simply a notebook or sketchbook that’s compact enough for you to carry around with you wherever you go, ever ready for you to capture those ideas that pop up in the most unlikely of places.
Here are 3 of the top ways that using a creative writing journal allows you to enhance your creative writing:
1. You allow your creativity to flow when it wants to flow. Creativity can’t be switched off, there isn’t a stop valve in your head you can reach in and turn so the ideas stop flowing. But you can suppress your ideas, not let them form, or worse still just ignore them and let them disappear forever.
When you use a writing journal, you can capture those ideas as they flow to you by simply jotting down a few words in your journal. Not only do you have the essence of the idea recorded to develop later, but you move that idea out of the way to make space for new ones to come through.
2. You give your creativity permission to come out and create. If you’re not capturing your ideas, then your creativity will become blocked and far less productive. Imagine you kept going to your boss with new ideas and each time he dismissed them and said he wasn’t interested. It wouldn’t be long before you stop bothering to come up with ideas.
That’s exactly what your doing when you don’t capture your ideas. Use a writing journal to record ideas and your creativity feels like it has permission to come up with more, it knows its contribution is appreciated and valued. Which of course leads to creating more freely and easily.
3. You allow your ideas to germinate and grow. Often we expect a perfectly formed idea to pop into our heads then all we need to do is write and everything will flow easily without any further effort. This rarely happens, if at all.
When you use a writing journal to capture your ideas though, something very powerful happens. The ideas take on a life of their own, and grow as if they’re in an incubation tank. When you return to an idea you wrote down days or weeks ago, you’ll find all kind of new associations and offshoot ideas come to mind also. This can only happen when your ideas are given time to grow after being captured in some way.
These are 3 of the top ways you allow your creativity to come through and shine, simply by using a creative writing journal.
If you don’t use one already, invest in a journal today. It doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive, a basic notebook or sketchbook works fine.
The most important part is to get using it right away, to keep it with you wherever you go and get USED TO using it. The surge in your creativity in a matter of days will be amazing.
