Secaucus NJ and the Meadowlands

Because we’re so accustomed to hearing about the stunning beauty of various overseas locales, we tend to overlook some of the prettier parts of our own side of the globe. And while Firenze, Milano, and Shinjuku are doubtlessly beautiful places that everyone should visit given the chance, our own backyard isn’t so shabby, either. The Secaucus meadowlands are just one example of this. For anyone in the north New Jersey area or in New York City, the meadowlands can be a nice place to visit. And if you’re going to visit, you of course need a place to stay. Here are some of the best hotels to consider if you’re going to be sticking around in the meadowlands area for any length of time at all, a few things to do if you’re in town, and some places nearby that re well worth seeing.

Secaucus Meadowlands Hilton Garden Inn

The Hilton Garden Inn is a gorgeous, mid-scale hotel that serves the greater meadowlands area in Secaucus. It’s a short drive away from the train station that will take you to New York Penn Station in just a few minutes, and offers some of the nicest rooms you’ll find in a hotel in its range. With breakfast served daily and a host of nearby restaurants for lunch and dinner needs, you really can’t go wrong with the environment and service you’ll enjoy at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The Meadowlands Hampton Inn

Located not too far from the Hilton Garden Inn, the Meadowlands Hampton Inn is another hotel in the three star range that offers renowned service, beautiful rooms, and a variety of suites to cater to people staying for varying lengths of time. The Hampton Inn offers a daily breakfast, but no dinners; for that, you’ll have to venture away from the grounds to grab a bite. Of course, this poses no problem, as the Hampton Inn is fairly close to a handful of eateries that are sure to do the job.

Things to Do

The best you can do for yourself when you’re in the meadowlands, actually, is walk around. The most enjoyable aspect of the region is the relatively pristine environment that sets it apart from the rest of New Jersey and New York City: Coming back to the Secaucus meadowlands offers a bit of a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life and the industry of the rest of the Northeast.

The city isn’t a bad thing, though, and if you’re in the meadowlands area, you should definitely take the fifteen minute train ride into New York City. The ride brings you to New York Penn Station, from which you can get just about anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn with virtually no trouble at all. Another worthy stop is Princeton University, just forty minutes by train south of Secaucus. Offering tourists sights such as the brilliant Carl Icahn Laboratory building, Frist Campus Center (famous for being the façade of the Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital in the television show House), and Prospect Garden, it’s well worth the ride.
