Got A Book In You That Won’t Come Out? Get Help!

It has long been said that everyone has at least one book in them. That being said, the tough job is getting it out; not everyone is a writer and not everyone enjoys writing. Even for many talented, experienced writers the act of writing is hard work. Painful even. Imagine what it might be then to someone who has absolutely no desire to write but still wants to get his story out.
Well, there is no longer any reason for that person to remain silent. The Internet is replete with firms that are willing to make the most of your story. Go to a search engine, type in “Ghost Writer” and choose from a number of websites that claim to have competent writers in their stable. Some of these writers work for major newspapers and magazines; some have prize-winning hardcover books to their credit.
The downside to this method, of course, is the expense. According to the sites I visited, the cost will be from Eight Thousand Dollars for a ghostwriter of little note to a Quarter Million Dollars for the services of a well-known writer with a best seller in his or her portfolio. One agency even advertises that its business is for “affluent professionals only” (I imagine they’ll still take anybody’s money though). But in these difficult economic times, few of us can conceive of an expenditure of this magnitude for a book that might have little or no commercial value.
Some people have no intention of selling their book. What they want is a written account of their lives, or some important happening in their lives; they only want to share this personal history with future generations of their own families. Many families, for example, have the written records of the Greatest Generation and their struggles in WWII and the Great Depression in their family archives.
For those not interested in a commercial venture there are alternative sources of ghostwriters. For one, don’t overlook family members with talent. Surely every extended family has at least one member with pretensions to being a writer. For another, go back to the Internet and advertise. That’s right, advertise. Go to Craigslist.Org and click on the writing/editing section. You might find a ghostwriter waiting already; if not, put in a short ad requesting one. The ads are free and while the writers that answer might not have the impressive portfolios of the ghostwriters we discussed earlier, they’ll work a whole lot cheaper.
Another possible source of ghostwriters is the History Department or Creative Writing Department of your local university. They often are aware of local writers that write for a reasonable rate or are interested in writing individual historical memoirs. Remember, you have something to say and your experience is always unique. Don’t let that die with you because you don’t like to write.
