Boils or Skin Abscesses are localized infections caused by bacteria or toxins that infect deep skin tissue. Furunvlosis is repeated out breaks of boils. Boils start out as red tender spots on your skin. Then progress into hard painful nodules that fill with pus causing a white head to form. If they do not pop and drain on their own a doctor must lance the boil and clean out the infection. If left alone a boil can cause a blood infection which in extreme cases can lead to death.

The old home remedy of using a hot towel to draw out the infection is effective but can lead to many days of pain and agony. Fortunately There are some herbal compounds that can make life with a boil much more tolerable. Anthracinum treats boil infections by acting as a natural antibiotic. Baptisia Tinctora better known as Wild Indigo reduces pain and fatigue. Echinacea Angustifolia or Purple Cone Flower Root is used to treat blood poisoning and calms itching and burning. Herpar Sulphur acts on abscesses before they open reducing pain, itching, and swelling. Mercurius cordsivus is a disinfectant that acts on skin infections. Pyrogenium treats abscesses, bed sores, dysentery, and fevers.

While in the navy I helped the doctor on our submarine lance a boil one of my fellow sailors had. I never have felt more sorry for someone in my life. The boil was about the size of a golf ball. Even with pain killers I had to help hold him down while the doctor worked. It was not a pretty site, and I don’t recommend it for anyone. After a week of bed rest, my friend finely came back to duty. We all asked him if he had gotten enough rest. He looked at us like, we’re all crazy and said that he had not gotten a wink of sleep the whole time due to how painful the boil was.

The old home remedy for boils is to take a hot towel and place it on the infected area to try and draw the infection to the surface, were then it well either pop and drain on its own or the boil will have to be lanced so it can drain. The problem with this is that by allowing what is only a localized infection caused by toxins or bacteria to grow you’ll risk a blood infection or at the very least a nasty scar. Antibiotic’s are an option but if the infection is due to toxins well do little to relive the infection. I never recommend antibiotic’s without a doctor prescription due to the problem of over use and the risk of other bacteria’s in your body becoming resistant to this kind of medication.

The use of these natural herbs allows your own immune system to deal with the infection while controlling the effects and pain. Being aware of what is going on in and on your body is part of making healthy life choices so by caching things like boils and treating them before they become an ugly problem is always the best recommendation.
