We all know it. You cannot wear anything at work, and you will not dress the same way whether you have to go out or if you want to stay home watching television.
There are a lot of dressing codes in fashion and it is even more obvious in men fashion, more than for women.
Men like women have to obey some codes and dress appropriately depending on where they are going or what they will have to do.
On top of the usual suit most men have to wear when they go to work, they very often have to wear a tie. And even if in some sectors and some companies we can see that fewer people wear a tie at work or when they go out for a formal occasion, the tie is still known and used for these formal occasions and for work when you need to meet a client.
But do we know exactly why we wear a tie and where that strange thing comes from?
Basically, a tie simply is a string of cloth that you tie around your neck just below the collar of your shirt. Ties exist in a large variety of colours and type of cloth from the basic one to silk for example.
Apparently, it seems that the tie comes from Croatia, and used to be worn there. The tie arrived in western Europe in the middle of the seventieth century when the French king Louis the fourteenth use some Croatians mercenaries for wars.
These mercenaries used to wear a piece of cloth knotted around their neck.
It seems that when people in France saw these men they loved that and the fashion trend started there. Men and women loved it and started wearing these ties.
These ties like every other piece of clothing evolved over the years to get to what we know now. While the bow arrived from the tie, we can see that over the decades, the width of the tie and its length also evolved. While they were commonly used after World War One in the United States of America, they were still fairly large when we compare them to what they are now.
There is a large number of amazing men fashion designers that sometimes use the tie in their collections, but finally they are worth having a look at. To give a few names, have a look at Kitsune, Pierre hardy, Common Projects or even Mykita.
