Top 10 Tips for Booking Cheap Flights

Having booked more flights than I care to mention, I’ve learnt a thing or two about how to get the best deal! With a keen eye always on my budget, here are some of the best tips I’ve discovered when it comes to bagging yourself an air ticket deal.

1. Be Flexible with Dates

The more options you have, the more likely you are to score a good deal.

2. Use Comparison Sites such as Skyscanner

Spendingtime do a little researching can end up saving you a lot.

3. Don’t Fly During School Holidays

Airlines hike their prices at these popular times.

4. Fly Mid-Week

By this I mean Tuesday through Thursday. Flights at the weekend and the days either side are generally much more expensive.

5. Look for Early Morning or Late Evening Departures

If you’re happy to put up with a bit of inconveiniance, flying at less popular times can save you a lot of money.

6. Clear your Computer Cookies

Airline websites do raise prices when they see you looking at flights around similar dates and to similar destinations. Clearing cookies on your computer means they won’t be able to track your search records.

7. Use Frequent Flyer Miles

It sounds obvious, but the amount of people who collect points and then let them expire without having used them is lubricious.

8. Only TakeCarry-On Luggage

Many airlines charge you to put baggage in the hold. Avoid if you can.

9. Check Card Booking Fees

Don’t pay with credit cards like Amex if doing so will incur you extracosts. On that point, don’t reserve seats either – again this will cost you needless money and normally you can easily select an appropriate seat for free at the time of online check-in.

10. Budget isn’t Necessarily Best

Many budget airlines boast cheap prices, but often you end up paying just as much in the long run because they fly to out of the way airports that incur extra transport costs or they have higher baggagefees. They also generally cost a lot more if you need to change any details.
