Overcoming The Hurdles Of Writer’s Block Short Stories, Novels, Or Other Works

There is nothing more frustrating to a writer than not having the ability to fully express their thoughts and feelings on paper. While some days are filled with endless ideas on plots, characters and settings, other days involve the mind drawing a blank. Luckily, inspiration can be found everywhere you look in the world. From day-to-day, we come into contact with interesting people, read about bizarre stories, and even find stories in our own experiences. It is vital that you ask yourself questions and explore why you may be having writer’s block. There are ways to defeat it to become a more productive and happy writer. Here are a few techniques to use that can help your creative juices to flow.
Write in different locations. Switch up where you write to give yourself varied vibes while writing. Sometimes, your home can be too distracting with family, television, and the refrigerator dwells. Find a quiet place to write. Or, if you enjoy noise, put on some jazz instrumentals.

Write in the morning instead of nighttime. Wake up an hour early and fit in a session of writing. Finding the time to write can be hard with such daily tasks as school, work, meetings, errands and other obligations. It’s important that you write every day.

Work on different forms of writing. Try blogging or technical writing, for instance. Help someone write their resume or academic thesis. Other writing projects can help you appreciate what you really love to do and give you added experience.

Go back to your outline and evaluate your story. If your writing takes off to a great start and you lose your way, reference your outline to assess what went wrong.

Relax. If you feel stressed, its more difficult to jot down all the creations in your mind. Give yourself a break and enjoy time with friends and family.

Try freewriting. Take a sheet of paper and write down anything you are thinking without stopping to correct any grammatical errors. The idea is to avoid putting any pressure on the writing process. You’d be surprised how many great story plots, characters and ideas come from this technique.

Change your personal lifestyle. If you are only getting a few hours of sleep and neglecting your health, this can affect your ability to write.

Reward yourself. Take yourself out or buy a nice gift as a reward for working so hard.
