Copywriting Career – Is It Right For You

You may have heard from someone or have read somewhere that copywriting is now a lucrative business for writers; you are interested as you have been long passionate about writing. You fancy yourself as a wordsmith and maybe you can turn this passion into an income generator. Whether you decided to have a fulltime copywriting career or to just do it on the side for extra income, this is a career choice that you should think about first before just jumping in.
You may be biting off more than you can chew. Copywriting is an entirely different concept and not every writer, no matter how eloquent he may be in his works, can be an effective copywriter especially in this day and age when consumers are not easily persuaded by sweet honey dripping words. But with the proper training, education, and lots of reading, most anyone can be embark on a copywriting career.
This is a great career choice as well, especially for those that desire to stay at home most of the time, or don’t have enough time to work a corporate job each day. But first you have to determine if you have the skills to do so. Surf the web and read the contents of many corporate websites, they usually have their homepage written by professional copywriters. Assess your skills; be honest, and see if you are able to write that way. It doesn’t have to be at that level yet, you can become better as you get yourself some books, or enroll in copywriting programs.
Before you decide on starting your copywriting career, you should first decide what kind of copywriter will you be, or what would be the focus of your copywriting career. Would you be accepting projects for all types of copywriting needs? Will you be specializing in certain fields, or will you be limiting it to a select few types? Knowing this will allow you to set limits on your education program and how to market your business. A limited service would need for you to focus on certain markets only. If you’re just going to focus on writing jingles or video ads, then you will be marketing and promoting to those niche markets only.
Okay let’s get to the good part, how much will you be earning? In the six figure range! Wouldn’t that be great? Yes you can earn six figures annually with a copywriting career, but this is only reserved for the elite few who have already established their reputations and provide top quality results. Otherwise, if you have constant clients, and have adequate skills, you can expect to earn a decent income enough to quit a day job.
