Which Form Of Fiction Writing To Use?

Once you understand the purpose of your writing, you have an opportunity to select that most appropriate form to write. The form includes conventions and styles and these vary greatly between writers. They can also vary between a particular writers works.
Since the writer does not have face-to-face contact with the reader, he or she has no way of knowing the immediate response of the reader. There is no feedback as the reader can only rely on the words to understand the message. The writer has a one-way conversation with the reader. In many cases, the writer adopts a stricter approach to form and style so that the reader has a better chance of understanding the total message.
Hence these concepts of form and style are categorised. There are three high level styles. They are imaginary, persuasive and expository. Forms may be categorised as articles, letters, short stories, fables, speech, monologue, dialogue, transcripts from interviews, etc.n Understanding the nuances related to each form and style will help the writer prepare excellent works.
When I write, I combine many forms depending on what I aim to produce. For example, for the detective novel that I wrote, the story was told by including letters, dialogues, sermons, transcripts of interviews and narratives. I could also have included speeches, emails, television or radio announcements or any other from of communication. I did find however that it is important to make certain that the forms are age specific. A young female will write a very different type of letter than a mature male on any topic! The styles that I choose depend on the situation as well.
A technique used by many writers is to have different characters giving their views on the same situation. This helps the reader understand where conflict might arise. Each character has a unique style and by using different forms, the writer is able to ensure that the reader understands his or her intention.
It is important to understand that no form of writing is unique or prescriptive to any style. The writer has complete freedom of choice. Genres tend to attract similar forms. For example, many spy books have fast passed action interlaced imagery with minimum narration, so that the reader gets enough information to convey plausibility and the story moves quickly. The fast paced action is achieved by short sentences with few adjective and many verbs and adverbs.
The writer should select the form and style that will allow the reader to understand when he had in mind. Create mixtures of the forms in fiction writing to create interesting and enjoyable works.
