Laurini Officine Meccaniche presents LLS – Laurini Laying System for automatic pipe-laying

Amsterdam, April 2017 – The new LLS project of Laurini Officine Meccaniche was a great success among the experts when it was presented during the Novel Construction Initiative conference at the Spring Plenary Session of IPLOCA, on April 5 and 6, 2017, at the NH Amsterdam Centre hotel, a wonderful opportunity to hear about the innovative new developments announced by the members. The Italian company Laurini Officine Meccaniche, has always focused on the use of “intelligent power” to develop more and more efficient machinery, and succeeded in arousing the interest of the participants with its illustration of the LLS – Laurini Laying System, a new generation of pipe-laying equipment that overcomes the difficulties encountered up to now with traditional pipe-laying machines, starting from safety on the job. The data reveal that in the last ten years there have been hundreds of fatal accidents in this sector. LLS eliminates the risk of overturning thanks to an unprecedented structure equipped with two separate crawlers, one that works in the excavation and one on the track, to ensure greater stability of the machine, thereby doing away with the mechanical arm and cables to raise projecting suspended loads. It is a safer laying system that will also simplify bureaucratic and safety certification procedures. Laurini Laying System is a significant step forward also when it comes to environmental ecosustainability: thanks to the fact that it works closer to the excavation, reducing the workspace by at least 3 meters, and consequently reducing the size of the area to be cleared and replanted. It is an ideal system and is also effective in limiting CO2 emissions, about 30 billion tons every year, caused mainly by combustion and deforestation. Another advantage that should not be overlooked it the ease of transportation: LLS is modular and can therefore be disassembled and reassembled at the site, with considerable reduction of logistic costs and shipment by about 70% for overland transport and 90% for ocean freight. These are some of the key aspects highlighted by Paolo Garbi, Sales Director of Laurini Officine Meccaniche and Giacomo Baione, Technical Manager of Laurini Officine Meccaniche, who presented the LLS project, begun in 2014 and now complete with the official presentation of the prototypes scheduled for June 2017. “The introduction of the LLS will not cause the complete abandonment of traditional sideboom machines, as these are essential for certain particular projects involving, for example, steep slopes.
