Three Tips On More Authoritative Copywriting

If you have discovered that your copy-writing isn’t as working as you like then maybe you need to change the tone of your writing. Writing your copy from a more authoritative tone will make your recommendations and suggestions that more powerful. To that end we will look at a few of the things you can do to add that sort of tone to your writing.
Tip #1 – Clearly State The Benefits And Advantages
Since it is probably an obvious statement to say that nothing can be everything to everyone we are assured that your idea, statement, service or product will have some limitations or disadvantages. Your job is not to detail these to your readers. Rather accentuate the positive. Make sure your writing is focused on the benefits and advantages they will receive.
For example, if you are promoting a moped then you don’t have to tell your readers that it will not go as fast as a car. For that matter it will not fly either but it will help the owner get to their destination. It costs less then a car, is environmentally friendly and is easy to store.
Tip #2 – Make Use Of Facts
It may be in your nature to write in a hyperbole nature but this doesn’t endear you to the reader. In fact it means they will come to discount what you say because of your liberal use of embellishment. This of course is not the wanted mindset you want them to have on your behalf. You will find if you haven’t already that the fastest way to lower your credibility is to be known as one that overstates. But you can use this same principle to your behalf. Let your readers see you as the one who states easily verifiable facts in your writing. Build on these to make any points, suggestions or recommendations you want to make.
Tip #3 – Back Up Your Claims With Proof
You will find that gaining an authority tone in writing is very similar to what goes on with news stories. Before they make statements they need proof that what they are saying is indeed true. You should look to do the same with your writing. When you make a statement that may need to be proofed as it were then make sure you also have the figures and details to corroborate it. You can even go as far as using a statement, research or study done by a recognized expert to add to your claim if that is available.
We have taken a quick look at three tips you can use to make your writing more authoritative. These included stating the benefits and advantages, using facts and backing up claims with proof. By making sure your writing incorporates these elements you can easily add a more authoritative tone to it.
