This is a subject that is probably going to anger quite a few copywriters. Well that’s okay, I can handle the heat. I have never been one to say what people want to hear. I will tell them straight out the truth, and then they can take it for whatever it means to them. In this article, I am going to tackle the subject of how important sales copy really is in the world of Internet marketing. The answer that you get might really surprise you. So hang on to your seats, and prepare yourself for quite an eye opening article.
Let me start out by saying that a crappy sales letter isn’t going to get the job done. So I don’t want anybody to think that you can put up just any old junk, and the sales are going to start coming in. The truth is, without a decent sales letter, you have very little chance of succeeding. However, your sales letter is just one piece of the puzzle. A lot of the beginning copywriters, when writing copy for clients, forget about this.
In addition to your sales letter, there is the matter of traffic. Many marketers don’t seem to realize that getting targeted traffic to your site is just as important as your sales letter. For example, if you were to put the greatest sales letter in the world in front of a bunch of people at a traffic exchange, you would be lucky to get even one sale. The reason is because the people who go to traffic exchanges are not targeted prospects. That is of course unless your product just happens to deal with getting traffic. In that case, you have a chance.
In addition to traffic, there is the matter of the product itself. Many marketers will go about creating a product without even researching to see if anybody cares about it. If you are trying to sell something that has absolutely no demand, you can have the greatest product in the world, and it won’t matter… nobody is going to buy it. Heck, even your own mother won’t buy it. So it is important that you first research your market to make sure that people actually want what you have to sell. It sounds logical and obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many marketers do not do this. It’s enough to make me crazy.
So you see, your sales page is just a part of the puzzle.
