Most people have best friends. As a best friend, one is expected to take care of and do special things for the other person. Everything is reciprocated. Of course, this is the case when one’s best friend is an independent, fully-functioning human. However, what if one’s best friend is a furry, barking, quadruped mammal? The things that can be done for them would be obviously different. After all, dogs and cats are beings that are dependent on humans. As these creatures’ best friend, the priority, of course, is their health and well-being. To fulfill this responsibility towards pets, their basic needs must be fulfilled. Aside from providing these needs, there are things one can do to boost their pets’ health and well-being. This boost comes in the form of pet supplements for dogs and cats.
Supplements for dogs and cats are similar to supplements ingested by humans. These supplements make the human body’s immune system stronger. Specific supplements are taken for different purposes. However, probiotics for dogs and cats, like its human counterpart, strengthens the digestive system. Why the digestive system? It’s because the gastrointestinal tract of humans’ furry friends is the organ that affects their immune system the most. The GI tract of dogs is inhabited by many microorganisms in numbers way more than human GI tracts. Because of this, dogs are more likely to suffer from harmful diseases when these microbes find their way to other parts of the body. It is established that the body hosts both bad and good microbes. Nothing would go wrong if only these microbes (especially the bad ones) simply stay where they are supposed to.
To prevent these microbes from wandering off to parts of the body where they are not supposed to be, it is essential to strike a balance in the ratio of good and bad microbes. Good microbes should always be in greater amount than the bad ones. The logic is simple: if the good guys get overwhelmed because of sheer numbers, the bad guys will rule. The dog or cat will get sick if the ration tips in the favor of the bad microbes.
With all of these possible problems caused by bad microbes, the essence of maintaining and promoting large numbers of friendly microbes in dogs and cats’ digestive system is highlighted. Pet supplements containing the much-needed probiotics is the simplest, yet the best answer. The risks are minimized in the highest way possible as the present scientific knowledge would allow.
Beyond minimizing the risks of infections and diseases, dog and cat probiotics have something more to offer. Since the friendly microbes establish colonies in the digestive tract, as a by-product, they produce enzymes. These enzymes break down ingested foodstuff into simpler substances that the intestines absorb. This means easier digestion for the dogs. Furthermore, other note-worthy digestive processes and functions such as mineral absorption, oral development, and bowel movement are also boosted by the intake of these probiotics.
It’s true that the need for probiotics for dogs and cats differs from one animal to another. Pets experiencing changes in their diet, experiencing emotional stress, and taking maintenance antibiotics might need to take probiotics more than those who do not suffer from these things. However, if you want your furry best friend to enjoy the benefits as discussed, purchasing pet supplements should be highly considered.
