Why is it that every year thousands of dads receive boring Father’s Day cards which are impersonal and bland? It’s a shame because personalised cards are so readily available and they can make such a big difference. There are so many different themes for personalised cards out there too (from football to yoga!) and with the right message and a simple gift they can be something worth keeping forever.
Many fathers become used to receiving personalised cards quite early in their childrens’ life when they bring home special hand-made cards from school. You probably have a few memories yourself of never drying glue stick catastrophes with too much glitter and smiling faces. These are the cards your father will cherish though, because they’re from your childhood and they’re personal.
For some reason as we get older we neglect the importance of Father’s Day cards. We think it’s fine to just buy a generic one from the supermarket and then, more often than not, we struggle to think of the right message to write inside, because after so many years of getting bland cards we’ve ran out of inspiration. As well as personalised cards which have something to do with one of your dad’s interests, such as a golfing card which says happy birthday and your father’s name (if he loves golf.) You can get some brilliant sporty cards which really push the boat out. Does your dad love cricket? Is he mad about the footy? If not, what about golf or horse racing? For each of these super sports you can get Father’s Day cards. But they’re not ordinary Father’s Day cards; they’ve each got a special DVD with them. So, your dad could read a great touching message or a silly joke inside the card and then put on the DVD which shows the history of a great game or some key points in the history of cricket, horse racing, football or golf that are world famous. You know the sorts of moments, those moments of elation. Those impressive goals, incredible races and brilliant Ryder Cup wins! Celebrate Father’s Day with your dad over an awesome DVD (which comes as a secret treat inside the personalised cards) and he’ll remember the day forever.
Making Your Own
Now that computers are in almost every home and so many people use digital cameras, it’s actually easier than ever to make your own personalised cards. You can use family photos for the front or childhood pictures that still make you laugh. You can even use a photo editing program such as Adobe Photoshop to make family photos even funnier, add speech bubbles, moustaches or even cut out a person and put them in a silly setting. If you were always getting in to trouble as a child you could put yourself behind bars – aged 3, or if your dad loves diving you could surround him in colourful fishes. Whatever design you chose to make, it could have a similar effect to those cards you made in childhood. It could show your dad you care enough to take the time and effort to make something funny or meaningful for him. You can’t get much more personalised than a homemade personalised card and by using good quality card and folding the crease perfectly they can look very professional too.
Sibling Rivalry
If you have a lot of brothers and sisters then Father’s Day can be a bit of a competition, not a particularly fierce competition; but still a lot of fun! If you want to impress your dad the most this year, personalised cards will probably do the trick. They don’t have to be the typical fold out greetings cards either and you can purchase special prints which have been made unique by the addition of your dad’s name or a special message. These are a good alternative to folded personalised cards because when your father has read the message on the back of the print he can frame or display the image in his living room or on his desk. You can get his name written in the sand on a beach print if he loves to surf or sail. Dads who love race cars might like their name on the license plate of a sports car as a glossy full colour print. Whilst a rock star dad might like a personalised print of a guitar with his name on the guitar itself. You can even buy prints with your dad’s name on a pair of football boots!
