Using Emu Oil and Where to Find the Best Quality Product

Emu oil studies have shown it has many benefits.

In the US, emu farming became popular in the 80s due to the highly anti-inflammatory oil extracted from the bird’s fat.

These days there are around half a million birds in America supplying their lean red meat and amazing oil to a growing market.

Used on skin, the oil makes it softer, more elastic and younger looking.

Emu Oil and Australian Aborigines

Aborigines, Australia’s indigenous population, have used this oil for millennia. They still use the oil to this day as a totally natural medicine to cure burns, wounds, sunburn and to ease joint and muscle pain.

Throughout the world, people have testified to and proved these benefits.

Skin Benefits

Emu oil soaks down into the skin as fast if not faster than any other oil currently known, whether animal or vegetable.

Thus, as a moisturizer, it acts on the surface of the skin and the many layers of skin below.

It is one of the best natural skin moisturizers known, and gives body to thinning skin which occurs with age or with some skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Because the oil penetrates so far down into the skin its anti-inflammatory properties make it useful to help treat joint and muscle pain and arthritis and rheumatism.

It is also commonly used by the pharmaceutical industry as a trans-dermal carrier of topical medicines.

Indeed, the current author was prescribed a corticosteroid cream for a skin condition and, once applied, he then applied the oil on top to help with the cream’s penetration and to maintain his skin’s thickness and moisture.

This author believes the oil made the treatment time shorter than it would have been without.

Emu oil also softens the skin and increases its elasticity so is commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines.

It is 100% safe to use so can even be applied gently around the eyes.

Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids provide the raw materials which assist in the moderation of blood pressure, body temperature and blood clotting. They also enhance nutrient usage, develop and moderate cell metabolism and strengthen our cell membranes.

EFAs are not formed in the body and need to be part of our diet or else absorbed by emu oil applied to the skin.

Omega 3

Emu oil is naturally high in Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acid.

Omega 3 benefits the heart by increasing the density of lipoproteins (which is “good cholesterol”) while at the same time reducing triglycerides (which is “bad cholesterol”).

Omega 3 is absorbed by the body when applied onto the skin.

Omega 6

Emu oil is also naturally very high in Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acid.

Omega 6 is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that works with other fatty acids to create prostaglandins, substances essential for our general health.

Omega 6 is also absorbed by the body when used on the skin.

Other Benefits

The oil can be safely used on all types of skin.

It is non-comedogenic which means it does not clog pores. Thus, it is used to help in the treatment of acne because of its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

The oil, in its pure state, is also hypo-allergenic so can be used by people with sensitive skin and allergies and has never been found to cause irritation.
The oil is used to help treat the following conditions:

• Age spots

Grades of Emu Oil

About one and a half gallons of raw emu oil is extracted from an average adult emu.

Most oil available in the US today is refined into a Standard Grade, which is yellowish, may need to be heated before use, then shaken to eliminate any layers that may have formed.

However, the purest grade of emu oil is called Ultra Clear from which around half a gallon is obtained from the raw oil.

Ultra Clear is not surprisingly clear, doesn’t solidify unless it is extremely cold, thus it does not otherwise need to be shaken and does not layer.

Ultra Clear is also low-odor, penetrates into the skin even faster than the Standard Grade and has an incredible 45% higher concentration of anti-inflammatories than the Standard Grade oil.

Application

The oil is applied directly onto affected areas of skin or muscles or joints as often as required.
